Newspaper Archive

The Galveston and Texas History Center preserves numerous Galveston newspapers dating from 1839 to the present day. These newspapers include the Galveston Daily News and the Galveston Tribune, as well as immigrant, labor, Jewish, and African-American newspapers. Most newspapers are available on microfilm, of which digitized copies are available at NewspaperARCHIVE. Those with a library card from the Rosenberg Library may access the database from home for free through the library’s Online Databases.

The Portal to Texas History

The Galveston and Texas History Center is currently partnering with the University of North Texas to digitize the center’s collection of the Galveston Tribune and other historic newspapers. The University of North Texas is providing quality scans of the original papers at the Portal to Texas History.

The Tribune digitization project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant #TXT-20007, 2020, Grant #TXT-21009, 2021, and Grant #TXT-22003, 2022).
