Street Name Files

Galveston's streets run north/south and east/west. The north/south are numbered streets beginning on the east end of the island. The east/west are lettered avenues with the most northerly avenue lettered "A." Many of the older boulevard's have been given alternate names. A listing is included below.

The History Center has photocopies of many of the street files available for the public. Please contact the GTHC regarding the street photographs.

Avenue A = Harbor Drive, Industrial Boulevard, Water
Avenue B = Strand Street, Texas Avenue
Avenue C = Mechanic Street, Ships Mechanic Row
Avenue D = Market Street
Avenue E = Postoffice Street
Avenue F = Church Street
Avenue G = Winnie Street
Avenue H = Ball Street
Avenue I = Sealy Avenue
Avenue J = Broadway
Avenue P = Bernardo De Galvez
Avenue P 1/2 = Heard's Lane
Avenue S = Stewart Road

2nd Street = Ferry Road
4th Street = Holiday Drive
6th Street = University Boulevard
14th Street = Christopher Columbus
21st Street = Moody
22nd Street = Kempner
23rd Street = Tremont
25th Street = Rosenberg Avenue
29th Street = Martin Luther King
39th Street = Mike Gaido
41st Street = Jack Johnson
53rd Street = Mary Moody Northen
61st Street = Central City Boulevard
