TOMORROW: Researching the Galveston Tribune on The Portal to Texas History

Tomorrow, April 9th, join the Galveston and Texas History Center and the University of North Texas for the virtual tutorial “Researching the Galveston Tribune on the Portal to Texas History”.

First publishing under the name The Post in 1880, the Galveston Tribune published six evenings a week until 1964, when it was absorbed into the Galveston Daily News. One strength of the Tribune was its coverage of local social events, entertainments, and obituaries that did not appear in the Daily News and other local newspapers.

In 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025, the Galveston and Texas History Center received TexTreasures grants to digitize their issues of Galveston Tribune in partnership with the University of North Texas’ Portal to Texas History. The Portal to Texas History now contains over 12,000 digitized issues of the Galveston Tribune from 1884 to 1932, with issues up to 1933 to be uploaded by May 2026.

Now, you can learn more about this extensive digital collection in a free virtual tutorial! The tutorial will be given by Dr. Ana Krahmer, Director of the Texas Digital Newspaper Program of the Portal to Texas History. In this event, you can explore the Galveston Tribune online and discover how to use this valuable resource to further your historical research.

To sign up for the tutorial, visit the event page on the Rosenberg Library calendar. The tutorial will be held via Zoom from 3-4 PM CT on April 9th, 2026. No library card is required.
